With the 2012 Election looming: The Question is - What is "Presidential"?

In the past few days, we have been treated to a litany of speeches and sound bytes... lies and gaffes but the image of president will all come down to one thing...

So just what is presidential?

That is the question we must ask ourselves.  What is a leader of this nation supposed to be?

One who spins bald faced lies and uses them repeatedly in commercials?

Even Chrysler calls Romney out on his outright lie as reported here.

OR is it someone like we see here? The candidate as President – cancelling speeches and appearances; stopping his campaigning in order to act. Who spends his remaining week before elections with the people.

Do we support the candidate Romney who refuses to answer for his statements on FEMA?  The one who sets up a "photo op" at the last minute with a quick "support" effort (supporting Romney's  "LOOK at ME!" "aren't-I-a-caring-humanitarian-afterall" effort) in Ohio?  A photo op hastily put together in an attempt to counter "Mitt the would-be FEMA destroyer" and to show Mitt as a "humanitarian".

Mitt even refuses to address his comments - his stance on dismantling FEMA the only program that actually organizes and offers immediate assistance for the people on a national scale.
OR do we support the candidate that works a time of crisis, so that even his greatest detractors give praise?

We can wrangle and kvetch, bluster and brag all we want - we can complain that we aren't pulling in big bucks after 4 years of trial with a tanked economy just barely...barely keeping its head above water with a Congress stacking the odds against the people.
BUT, for my money, I know who I would want covering my back.

It isn't the bravado and the nonsense;  It isn't someone who has no experience in national and international affairs ; it isn't the guy who flip-flops on every position and will say ANYTHING in order to get a vote; It isn't the guy that shouts fire in a theater (going to Ohio and claiming Chrysler is moving to China when the people are JUST starting to get a sense of security back).

As a screaming liberal and pragmatist, I have to say, that when it comes to decisive and humanitarian response;  When it comes to quick thinking and setting priorities for the people, there is only one candidate in the race and one candidate who is the clear choice.

I am throwing behind the guy who is "presidential".

The GOP Clown Car isn't so funny (Just another day in Paradise)

"Let them eat cake!" Tour
brought to you by the 1% of the 1% who own their despicable asses...(Pluto, jump, can do it....JUMP!)

The GOP Clown Car - no breaks, no hands, no soul.............

And it will careen off the edge taking us (not just the US but the entirety of the planet's 1st and 2nd worlders) with it.

We have come way to close in the past but pulled back in the nick of time as 2 wheels went off the craggy cliff at the edge of the abyss.

Sadly, it appears too many of us still get our kicks with childish thrill-seeking - the Rosenbaumians, the anti-Keynsians, the short term-memoried, the logic challenged. That portion of America's underbelly that cares little for that which they refuse to acknowledge.

The fearful, the willfully ignorant and the conscience deprived - Today's GOP

Romney spins the Neo-Con “Noble Lie”

"...those in power must invent noble lies and pious frauds to keep the people in the stupor for which they are supremely fit.." (Leo Strauss and the Grand Inquisitor by Shadia B. Drury)

As evidenced this week in the latest Romney lie made viral, Mitt Romney proves, again, to have no moral center nor respect for the American people. He proves, again, that the Neo-conservative method of gaining power is his campaign, He proves again he will stop at nothing - no lie too big, too small, too outrageous to be used in order to commit the on-going agenda to promote the plutocracy and destroy the middle class.

From the video of his speech:

Mitt Romney Campaign Rally in Defiance, OH - October 25 2012 - The Big Lie - Chrysler Jeep moving to China - YouTube22
He gets handed a lie and runs with it then surrounds it with pandering bullshit ("There are good Democrats who love this country....."  implying that Obama is what? A "bad Democrat" that doesn't?), ruminating incoherency, and more spin than the front wheel of Lance Armstrong's bike.

This isn't new for Mitt, nor for Paul Ryan, his boy toy running mate.  Romney was caught in the 2nd debate with his lie about Obama's comments on Benghazi....

Mitt, apparently, pays attention to talking points more than reality. In the Rose garden...

and again in Golden, CO,  the following day...

While Ryan  offered  6 full bore whoppers during his address to the GOP body at the convention...

 From the ThinkProgress article:

Here are the most glaring lies from his speech:

1. “A downgraded America.” Ryan blamed the president for the nation’s credit downgrade in August 2011 after Republicans threatened to allow the government to default on its debt for the first time in history. But the ratings agency explicitly blamed “Republicans saying that they refuse to accept any tax increases as part of a larger deal.”
2. “More debt than any other president before him, and more than all the troubled governments of Europe combined.” Romney has made the almost identical claim, that Obama has amassed more debt “as almost all of the other presidents combined.” But their math doesn’t add up: when Obama took office, the national debt was $10.626 trillion. It has increased to slightly above $15 trillion.

3. Shuttered General Motors plant is “one more broken promise.” Ryan described a GM plant that closed down in his hometown, Janesville, Wisconsin, and blamed Obama for breaking his promise to keep the plant open when he visited during his campaign. But Obama never made that promise, and the plant shut down in December 2008, before Obama even took office.

4. Obama “did exactly nothing” on Bowles-Simpson. Ryan said, “He created a bipartisan debt commission. They came back with an urgent report. He thanked them, sent them on their way, and then did exactly nothing.” In fact, Ryan was instrumental in sabotaging the commission, leading the other House Republicans in voting against the plan.

5. “$716 billion, funneled out of Medicare by President Obama.” Ryan’s favorite lie is a deliberate distortion of Obamacare’s savings from eliminating inefficiencies. Furthermore, Ryan’s own plan for Medicare includes these savings. Romney has vowed to restore these cuts, which would render the trust fund insolvent 8 years ahead of schedule.

6. “The greatest of all responsibilities is that of the strong to protect the weak.” Ryan closed the speech with an invocation of social responsibility, saying, “The truest measure of any society is how it treats those who cannot defend or care for themselves.” However, numerous clergy members have condemned Ryan’s budget plan as “cruel,” and “an immoral disaster” because of its devastating cuts in social programs the poor and sick rely on. Meanwhile, Ryan would give ultra-rich individuals and corporations $3 trillion in tax breaks.
Then there is the "binders full of women"  debacle as Romney tried, during the 2nd debate,  to spin the facts of MassGAP and the women's organizations that actually did all the leg work creating the binders that were to go to whomever won that gubernatorial election (the Huffington Post joined, The Washington Post as well as Salon in reporting the statements of MassGAP and the women who actually were involved in the real process of locating educated and qualified women for positions in the new administration - both before and after the election)...

The 20% across the board tax cut that now isn't...

The Obama cut production of oil lie...

I have to ask, are voters really buying this bullshit?  Apparently some are - those voters who imagine themselves to be in the magical 53% that Romney held out in his more than obvious contempt towards America.  They might be surprised to find out Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney care as much about them as the crap scraped off their shoes after walking through an Iowa stock barn....  Maybe less.

Mitt has been caught in lie after lie, rewriting history and  his positions, in every speech made, interview shown and all along the campaign trail.  Romney hasn't made a statement that he hasn't changed; seen a fact that he hasn't ignored nor heard a lie that he doesn't promote.  To be honest, I suspect it isn't all Mitt. he just isn't that smart but he does have his advisers from the Bush neo-conning years.

Sadly, critical thinking seems to get lost while the appeal to hostility and fear  has become the prime objective.  In the media, on the stage or when given a venue of any kind,  Romney and Ryan, like Sarah Palin before them, and Bush and Cheney (with a Rove chaser) before them insure that  facts are ignored, history rewritten, lies promoted and frauds perpetrated ...

Whatever it takes to best scare the fuck out of people in order to gain and maintain power at all costs.

Because that, after all, is the goal of the "Noble Lie"

The GOP: Proving they are no more than a little boys club afterall

Holy Ayn Rand, Batman,
we got to stop those bleeding heart liberals from offering health care, food and shelter
to those leeching poor, meek, the disabled....
If we don't, then there won't be more for us!

It is fairly common for grade school aged boys to go through their cycle of girl-hating. That age between infancy and adolescence when girls have cooties and are “dumb”and just plain "weird".   Creating those super secret clubhouses posted “no girls allowed,” filled with comic books and secret finds, set with traps and pitfalls for any silly “GIRL!” that might happen by….

That period from 5-10 years of age controlled by angst and anger as the little boys are forced to separate from mommy and as they are pushed into awareness of those around them (not to mention comparing the size of their club's members);  As they begin noting differences between the genders and act out in expected bigotry from ignorance and fear.  It is a time fraught with anxiety as well as excitement -  pure sensation driven with exploration and experimentation.  A fascination with explosions and car chases and creepy crawlies ...And  they see little girls as alien creatures treated differently - not just by choice, but by adults around them.

Those silly “Boys of Summer,” in their little circle jerks (both literal and figurative); their elaborate planning of attacks on their sisters and any female class mate that threatens their male dominance, generally grow out of the syndrome as their voices crack, their pubic hair grows and their more frequent nocturnal emissions begin to include little swimmers.  In other words, with puberty and maturity ...

Well, most boys grow out of it but then there are the few who don't.

I don't want to grow up!

Republicans of the 21st century....

We are treated daily, at times hourly, with more quips and comments, speeches and interviews by members of the GOP in which they show their continued disdain for anyone female, anyone not them and anyone not in their Old Boy's Club.

Todd Akin, GOP candidate for Missouri Senate:

"It seems to be, first of all, from what I understand from doctors, it’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down"

From arrogance and ignorance of female anatomy to sexist comments about Ms. McCaskill not being "ladylike" and comparing her to "a dog", Todd Akin is proving to be a stereotype of the little boy's of the GOP.  The RNC's response?  In the media, they tried to distance from Akin's misogyny and bigotry but the money is flowing again and the support from the Boy's Club is strong.

Joe Walsh doesn't disappoint -  A vocal bully from within the boy's club, he has echoed the ignorance of anatomy as well, as his overt disdain for women, and may well be the tiniest minded of the little "Boy's of Summer in their ruin".

The blatant misogyny heard from the mouth's of the current crop of little boys is not new by any means.  It has become the modus operandi for the GOP over the past 3 decades.
As noted in a previous article and evidenced by the changes in the GOP Platform that held the ERA prominently within it's pages, the GOP - once led by Barry Goldwater who noted that the issue of abortion had no place in politics; once led by George Romney who cared about making money but also cared about the community at large and how his companies interacted within the community since the community was the working members of his company - the new idea GOP courted and slept with the right wing's most dogmatic religious zealots.  At first it was a marriage of convenience in which they manipulated the fundies into supporting them then ignored them once elected.  Later it became more difficult to ignore them and now, they have slept with them, merged with them and morphed into a party of dogmatic zealotry without moral compass.

The republican party took the worst of both worlds as they killed support for women, support for equality, support for humanity, support for justice, support for peace and replaced it with lack of insight, lack of caring, self absorption, immature sensation seeking (in the form of power and greed) and a perfection of their narcissistic sociopathy.

The conservative republican was replaced by the neo-conservative republican - the little boys of summer committing OUR ruin.

In 2000, the little boys club placed their best example of themselves in the role of candidate for the presidency of the United States and "won".

George W. Bush, besides his history of womanizing, alcoholism,  coke snorting and his destruction of every company he ever ran, his less than adequate intelligence with a degree bought with his father's money and power, impressed some less intelligent voters with his charm - a great guy "to have a beer with"...and got elected.

He had the power and money of criminals and liars as well as the power madness of the war-mongering PNAC  behind him and leading him (as they ultimately became his advisers and cabinet).  A great way to choose a world leader - AND HE GOT ELECTED AGAIN!

A man who destroyed our economy (as Cheney said "Reagan proved deficits don't matter"), spent us into a depression, attacked a sovereign nation without cause after lying to Congress and the American people about WMDs and Saddam Hussein's association with Bin Laden; who lied to everyone about his budget and the money spent - leaving a debt of $10.6 trillion; continued to act out like a child playing war and spent more time on vacation chopping wood than any other president since  before FDR (FDR - 985 days in 12 years,  Eisenhower  456 days; Reagan 335, Clinton 28, Lyndon Johnson, who spent 484 days, Bush 1,020 days in 8 years - President Bush spent 32% of his presidency on vacation, and Obama 78  by the end of 3 yrs in office) I won't even get into the lobbyist power rising, the corporate greed becoming openly acceptable and the middle class getting their ass handed to them with no chance of assistance.

In 2008, it was John McCain, all mavericky and with his choice of "a woman"...any a VP running mate - all based on the perception of  "first woman vice president" - no one bothered to vet her.

John proved no substance and all show throughout his campaign from offering up his wife in the Sturgis Miss Buffalo Chip contest to running away from  Letterman, making up a story about being called to DC due to the tanking economy when he actually was in NYC doing another interview.  When he DID show up to discuss the economic issues in DC and to be "involved", he was  definitely "unavailable" even at the meeting to discuss the stimulus.

In 2012, it is Romney-Ryan and the war on Women...
Romney-Ryan and the war on Social Security...
Romney-Ryan and the war on "entitlements" (code for social programs)...
Romney Ryan and the need for greed.

Romney-Ryan and their "Let them Eat Cake Tour" of 2012.

There isn't a day that goes by without some story "on the trail" with Romney-Ryan that doesn't prove the premise.  Romney's caught-on -tape moment discussing the leeching 47% (hey, Mitt - I can guarantee many Americans making less than $100K annually pay higher percentage of their income in a variety of taxes than you pay- from sales to local tax to payroll tax; and undocumented workers using a false social security number - even more as they have payroll taxes taken from their pay that are never seen again)  - not to mention his opinion of immigrants ("[If] you have no skill or experience…you're welcome to cross the border and stay here for the rest of your life."); Palestinians ("I look at the Palestinians not wanting to see peace anyway…and I say there's just no way.") - as well as Ryan's adamant disdain for the 30% that he deems to be takers (but Ryan certainly isn't a taker he claims, since he actually has created a business of being a candidate and elected official and educated himself from social security funds to which he was "entitled" after the death of his father).

And the GOP, as they sit in their little club house, planning new ways to assure their win of all the cookies; new schemes to fuck the voters through voter suppression and voter ID laws; new means in which to act against and demean women with laws removing our personal right to choice, denial of contraceptive care, forced medical rape and threats of prosecution for acting on our choice; new ways to oppress the middle class and kill off the poor through denial of health care for  workers, the unemployed and their families as well as the continued destruction of the public education system on which this nation was built;  new ways to create real death panels by implementing plans of cutting and privatizing everything from social security to Medicare - not to mention the destruction of medicaid that will assure the removal of life saving care for the needy and the elderly; new ways to assure their titillation through declarations of war and manipulation of power so they can play games with people's lives, turn the young into cannon fodder and blow the fuck out of non-Americans in the Middle East and any place they deem on top of  their minerals; new ways to gain more money in their off-shore accounts and keep their investments in the war machine lucrative; new ways to keep the 1% on top and the middle class small and ineffectual.

The Mainstream Media's double standard - Obama and Biden Debate Performance

On October 3, 2012, the first presidential "debate" was held in Denver Romney and Obama took the stage greeting a poorly prepared Jim Lehrer, the moderator. From there, it degraded to 90 minutes of uncontrolled viscous attacks, flip flops on positions for which Romney had made claims (especially his tax plan to cut taxes by 20% ), bald face lies on health care (pre-existing conditions) and other programs, a refusal to get specific on any program (other than to kill all that funding to NPR that will certainly pay for doubling the defense budget) on a quiet and somewhat sullen president.

The moderator lost control after Obama wished his wife a "Happy Anniversary" and never regained it.

Romney lied, Obama sighed and professionalism as well as courtesy died on that stage.

Romney was belligerent, brash and downright braggadocios (as well as rude, arrogant and demeaning).

Romney was declared winner and praised for his hard hitting demeanor, determined attitude and strong resolve. Mostly, the left and center were angered by Obama's apparent lack of interest and guts.

Last week we had Paul Ryan and Joe Biden face off in front of a very adept Martha Raddatz.

In this debate, Martha Raddatz kept control, was often confrontational, and asked tough questions. We were regaled with Ryan's claims and treated to Biden's justifiable righteous indignation. Biden didn't allow the bragging style and arrogance of the boy to get by with much as he confronted inconsistencies and outright lies; defended the Obama administration and gave much better than he got. He wasn't about to allow Ayn Ryan to pull the Romney arrogance without ripping off Ryan's head and spitting down his neck.

Biden obviously won that bout as we were treated with more Ryan lies, petulance and smugness in 90 minutes.

But the media - even the semi-liberal Thomas Frank - were appalled that Joe would actually treat Ryan without "respect," get down and dirty and call him out

Guys, guys...a bit of a double standard here? Obama was expected to come out with a street fighting attitude and Biden to do what? Sit with legs crossed, pinkie out and sip tea?

You complain that Obama took it, wouldn't confront and wouldn't look up as the arrogance poured from Romney yet you bitch and moan about Biden being just what you expected from Obama?

Joe Biden spoke what many of us have been thinking and feeling since Romney/Ryan took to lying, manipulating and attacking the people of this nation with their arrogant "us vs them, " "47% feel they are entitled," and "30% takers" diatribes.

Joe Biden spoke for many of us and to many of us.

Ryan was pompous, turned arrogant and lied - what a surprise!

Joe Biden is a man of the people - what don't you get about that?

Consistency? Can we ever get consistency and actual comprehension from Corporate run media and their talking, I mean heads? Nah, doesn't make good hype.

Ryan vs Biden? The real debate is Neo-Con Flash Trash vs Substance

cross-posted from FreakOutNation

Romney/Ryan/Rosenbaum-Rand 2012

I have often wondered what it is people see in a presidential candidate who, as president, brings with him the absolute disregard for self and for the human animal that creates a George Bush presidency.  Hell, for that matter, creating a Ronald Reagan presidency...

Reagan is regarded as "God" by many in the Republican Party but what I experienced first hand with Reagan was more of a demonic destruction of every principal on which it was built.  A country "claiming"  a  "Judeo Christian" ethic of "the Golden Rule" and the beatitudes….

For those unfamiliar with those beautifully written psalms  - the glorious offerings to mankind of a truly gifted speaker,  true humanitarian and, to my mind the first openly socialist being, given credence,  in our arm of society -  here they are:

The Sermon on the Mount

The eight beatitudes in Matthew 5:3–12 (American Standard version of “The Bible”)  during the Sermon on the Mount are stated as Blessed/Happy/Fortunate are:[2][3]
  1. the poor in spirit:
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (5:3)
  1. those who mourn:
for they will be comforted. (5:4)
  1. the meek:
for they shall inherit the earth. (5:5)
  1. they who hunger and thirst for righteousness:
for they will be satisfied. (5:6)
  1. the merciful:
for they will be shown mercy. (5:7)
  1. the pure in heart:
for they shall see God. (5:8)
  1. the peacemakers:
for they shall be called children of God. (5:9)
  1. those who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness:
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Great policies, Neo-Con Ron

What I experienced of Ronald Reagan, the first neo-conservative president - with  his attacks on workers, the poor and the children of the nation; with his obscene military expansionism, oil industry give aways, corporate promotion (specifically arms dealing and military providers)  over  promotion of the people, and his policies of planet destruction over energy independence - was a destruction of the very heart and soul of the substance of which this nation was built.  I watched the “government,” under his neo-conservative tutelage, erase the substance of caring for those meek in order to promote acts of aggression and hostility against the meek, the poor, the disabled, the peace-makers, the merciful, the pure of heart and the   "children of God" ...
  • The first to formally institutionalize "extraordinary rendition" as a means of dealing with international issues - Achille Lauro perpetrators - setting precedent and practice for lazy investigation and kidnapping that has created America's stormtrooping mentality;
  • Started a war without hostile  provocation or attack on the nation - Grenada - in order to pave the way towards the militarization of the economy and set overt precedent of  America the "bully" imperialist nation (sure we covertly involved ourselves in regime change since Truman but Reagan wanted it to be overt and a new LOW standard for America );
  • Openly attacked workers by turning the federal government against a union - PATCO - and began the policy of union-busting by government that has since pitted the government against the American worker.
  • Propped up and fed a bloated military industrial complex built on the sole premise of slaughter - The MIC that ultimately funded his election;
  • Began systematic attacks on public education to include funding cuts, pushing religion in school, trying to kill health and sex education, and the destruction of school lunch program (ketchup as a vegetable?  really?).  A slow path towards destruction of one of the world's best public school systems - bringing his slash and burn policies from California where, as governor,  he cut funding for food programs, pushed for a constitutional amendment requiring prayer in schools, pushed for tax credits to parents placing their kids in private schools (all beginning to sound familiar?) ;
  • The systematic destruction of the Middle Class that became more pronounced since the 1980's, promoted by the policies of "trickle down" that installed the class and income inequality we have today.  Here is a fun fact - Income growth under Republican presidents since Truman rises dramatically only for the top tier of income earners  while under Democratic presidents is spread throughout the entire population....
  • A mass lay off of health care workers;
  • Closing down of institutions providing care for those in dire need that threw hundreds of thousands of our brothers and sisters on the street.  The new population of homeless  with NO ability to care for themselves; feed, clothe themselves,  or save themselves from an onslaught of  criminal acts, inhuman acts, and social expulsion created by a man claiming to be “born again”.
Reagan turned the government away from the people; away from caring for the meek in favor of a renewed promotion of a Machiavellian  "might equals right" mentality - a madness, that until Reagan's injection of new life, had begun its slow, humane and necessary extinction starting with the creation of  The Renaissance across Europe (I might add with the help of education and knowledge gleaned from more than a passing acquaintance with other nations and societies to include the Middle Eastern countries that honored ideas of "chivalry", love and caring for their fellow humans from the Christ to John the Baptist to Mohammed)

21st Century Neo-Con

Fast forward to George Bush 2, the figure head and chosen face of the Neo-Con movement for the 21st Century.  A man of no obvious moral fiber, no ability to think beyond his narcissism, and of questionable intelligence.  A boy that blew holes in anything on which he could paint a bulls-eye ...  from our economy, to our health, to our international standing and relationships  to peace on the planet.  Playin'  "Six-Gun Sam" as he shot up everything from our security to our privacy to our peace to our "prosperity" to our self-respect.  He is guilty of outright war-mongering, fear -mongering and corporate whore-mongering..

Now we are embroiled in a great debate...The Romney/Ryan big money movement of Ayn Rand infected neo-conservative narcissism vs the latest attempt to inject some humanity BACK into a government that lost its soul.

Sure I have issues with Mr. Obama.  Any left leaning, humanity minded person should have some issues with drones and the NDAA;  With stopping any investigation of the evil done in our name that could have destroyed the legacies of not only Reagan, Bush 1 and  Bush 2, but also Clinton and hamstrung Obama's security advisers from Patreaus to Gates to Panetta (to my mind, each one of those three advisers is a war criminal but nothing to the level of Rumsfeld, Cheney, Rice  Gonzalez, Ashcroft, Reagan and the Bush clan all the way back to Prescott).

What too many refuse to understand is that we are a neo-con nation.  We were turned to one as Reagan opened the door to invite them in and like the vampires they are, they sucked the soul out of DC and put the oligarchs and neo-liberals in power.

That power has never waned.

Their only challenge,  before President Obama,  was dealt with by tying up the courts, the Congress and millions of taxpayer  dollars as they spent 8 solid years attacking the very moderate Bill Clinton and the First Lady Hillary Clinton.  The big money oligarchs joining forces with the neo-con attack dogs, proving only their sexual obsessions and immature arrogance (as well as their rather obvious lack of concern for blowing holes in budgets, increasing deficits and spending taxpayer dollars like a drunken sailor on shore leave),  never brought him down but a little  blue dress and a chubby, well endowed and overly eager intern willing to give a blow job to power appealed to his male hubris and nearly did.

Now the neo-con driven and oligarch funded GOP has placed their White Horse , faux Stallion, Romney in a race paired with the self enamored,  not so far haired "marathon man, "  boy-child, Ryan.  Both prove to be no more than front boys for the neo-cons that have gone before - advisers from Senor to Bork, Bush's brains splattered across the list.  Meet the new boss...same as the old boss.

If we don't like that we are a neo-con, then we must act like we care.  That first act of caring is to say "NO" to Romney/Ryan and the GOP.  THEN start to work on Obama and the rest of the DC crowd.

A Romney/Ryan Presidency will be more Bush than Bush.  No heart, no soul, no caring for the meek, for they believe only  "THEIRS is the kingdom of heaven" and at least 47% of us, the meek, the poor, the mournful,  the merciful, the peacemakers, the children of God are no more than leeches and don't have a place in their kingdom.
